What are streets 4

R eading with interest Peter D. Nortons book:  The dawn of the Motor age in the American city. 4 pedestrians fights  In 1920  there were already movements  representing the interests and rights of pedestrians: Book reading: City Streets, like city parks where public spaces and  people on foot, including children at play, had a rightful claim to street space. At those times there were few cars in the Streets and " when motorists first intruded upon city Streets, annoyed pedestrians found epithets for the more aggressive ones. Some called them "joy riders", others "speed Maniacs". Both Terms connoted irresponsibility and reckless disregard for the rights and safety of other street users." After World War I, the scale of death on Streets in America grew fast. In the first four years after Armistice Day more Americans were killed in automobile "accidents" than had died in the battle in France. In 1925 in the US, cars and trucks kill...

Road Safety Declaration, declaration, declaration.

Image
After a first Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in November 2009 in Moscow with the slogan “Time for Action” and a second one in Brasilia November 2015 with the slogan “Time for delivery” we are now heading to number three in Stockholm 18/19 February, exactly in one month. This should be the start for a new decade 2020-2030. The Slogan: A decade of Action and Delivery. What is missing in the Stockholm declaration? If we look back to both the Moscow and Brasilia declarations there was a much bigger space dedicated to the 5 th Pillar, the Post-Crash Response. And not to forget the Brussels NGO declaration where 70 NG´s of Road Victims and Road Safety were united in 2009 for a common declaration with their own views and recommendations: https://fevr.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/NGO-Declaration-dark-cover-single-pages-FINAL.pdf   With Luxemburgs Minister Francois Bausch in Brasilia 2015 In the Brasilia declaration was also mentioned the WDoR (World Day of ...

Reach Zero fatalities and Zero Serious Injuries by 2030

Setting targets for casualty reductions in road traffic 1.T he target 50 by30, reduce fatalities and serious injuries by half till 2030 should be considered as an interim target only, as Victims cannot accept still 13.000 in the EU 600.000 killed worldwide & many more seriously Injured, especially as no provision is given for their support. Even if the European Roads are always described being the safest one in the world we cannot be happy with the results of the last 5 years as there was a slow progress in reducing the numbers of casualties, the target 2020 is out of reach anyway. The number of people who die every week on EU roads is equivalent to 3 Boeing 737s going down and killing everyone on board. 3 planes every week.  Unimaginable for aviation is the everyday on our roads. 2.So FEVR has launched the Vision Zero In Cities Campaign during the EU mobility week in September 2019 3.Was the target of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety to redu...
